Nithya Shanti

For as long as I can remember, I have had a deep curiosity about the nature of life, truth and happiness. This led me to ask many questions from my parents and teachers, reading many books, and countless hours of daydreaming, unlikely possibilities. I was fortunate to go to a school which encouraged my curious bent of mind. It opened me up to discovering an expansive view of life through Sri Aurobindo and The Mother’s teachings and the teachings of many other significant authors, poets and teachers.

At the age of 16, a significant event occurred wherein I attended a 3-day meditation course in the Vipassana tradition of Sayagyi U Ba Khin as taught by Sri SN Goenka. This experience profoundly deepened and expanded my understanding of life and my place in it. It introduced me to the dimension of presence which I came to understand as being more significant than the dimensions of space and time. This experience began a journey firmly rooted in a love for truth and wisdom that has continued to ripen to this day.

I completed an MBA from a reputed business school and had a short stint in the corporate world. Then, in 2003, I left my corporate career and ordained as a forest meditation monk in the tradition of Ajahn Chah in North East Thailand. I practised in various forest monasteries in Thailand and Sri Lanka for six years. In 2008 I was guided to step out of my monastic life and continue my learning and practice in a more open, inclusive, and creative way. I have been supporting individuals, institutions and communities in creating cultures based on gratitude, authenticity, and timeless wisdom. Over the years I’ve had the privilege to, directly and indirectly, touch and inspire millions of lives all across the world.

While people may see me as an inspirational teacher or even sometimes address me as a Guru, I see myself as a ‘shuru’, which means perpetual beginner. I see my role as less about offering teachings and practices and primarily about creating spaces where people can access their own wisdom and brilliance.

In my own journey, I have been inspired by countless teachers and authors. I have learned and practised hundreds of tools, techniques and modalities, explored a wide assortment of philosophies and world views. This has brought me to a place where I am less attached to specific points of view and am more interested in viewing points which is the fascinating discovery that this world can be perceived and experienced in countless different ways, each of which have a grain of truth and are also limited in some way. So I do this work keeping in mind the words of my teacher, ‘teach others what you want to learn’. I don’t see myself as an expert or authority figure. I am a lover of wisdom and here to experiment in many ways of learning by failing forward towards an evermore refined understanding of the nature of life and truth.

On this website, you will find ways to access my live and recorded offerings, as well as ways to participate in my larger vision by volunteering or joining our conscious community. There are also many free resources you can benefit from. Thank you for stopping by. May you be a bright light of blessings in this world.

Mission & Vision

Depending on the approach used by the therapist, a wide range of techniques and strategies can be used. However, almost all types of psychotherapy involve developing a therapeutic relationship, communicating and creating a dialogue, and working to overcome problematic thoughts or behaviors.
